    "The prayer" - Félix Auguste Clément (20 May 1826, Donzère - 2 February 1888, Algiers), oil on canvas from the second half of the 19th century, signed on the lower left. The painter known for his orientalist scenes, dedicates this painting to the love of a mother for her sick child, the attention to detail is very clear, such as the light that gives three-dimensionality hitting the main subjects in great prominence on the dark background. His first studies were at the École nationale des beaux-arts de Lyon with Jean-Claude Bonnefond. In 1848 he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied with Michel Martin Drolling and François-Édouard Picot. He was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1856 for his painting of the return of the young Tobias. He remained in Rome for several years, followed by a visit to Egypt in 1862, where he painted scenes of princely activities, made decorative works for palaces and sketched monuments; some of them quite remote. Many works were made at the request of the Khedive. In 1868 he returned to France. Four years later, he was commissioned by the government to copy Andrea Mantegna's paintings in Padua, but was forced to return due to illness. He was a professor at the École Nationale in Lyon from 1874 to 1877, then he retired. He participated in the Second Annual International Exhibition in London (1872), the Expo Vienna 1873 and the Exposition Universelle (1878). It is reported that Henri Rousseau enlisted the help of Clément in obtaining permission to copy paintings in the Louvre; privilege reserved for students of recognized institutions. He died in Algiers, where he had spent the winter trying to recover.

  • "Val d'Ayas" oil on canvas by Silvio Allason (1843-1912), signed and dated S.Allason 1909 lower left, in excellent condition. Silvio Allason (Turin 1845 - 1912), was first employed in the Ministry of War, but from around 1867 he devoted himself only to painting. After a stay in Florence, he was a pupil in Turin, at the Accademia Albertina, of E. Gamba and A. Gastaldi for the figure, studying however, at the same time, landscape with his cousin Ernesto and, upon his death, with E. Perotti . He began exhibiting at the Turin Promoter in 1869; in 1873 he had a notable success with the painting "In ambuato"; in 1876 he exhibited "The rescue". He made a specialty of the effects of moonshine with figures. He also exhibited in Milan, Naples, Paris (Salon of 1878), Nice, where one of his paintings "Among the rocks" was purchased for the Chéret Museum. Other works of his are in the Civic Museum of Turin. But an unknown title of Allison in landscape art is given by an infinity of studies from life, which he almost never showed, rich in superior elements, such as the wisdom and taste of composition, heroically patient drawing, simply effective technique and excellent color.     "Valle d'Aosta landscape with huts" - Oil on panel by Giuseppe Gheduzzi (1889-1957). Born in Crespellano (Bologna) on May 12, 1889, he lived in Turin where he died on May 21, 1957. He learned the basics of art from his father Ugo, then attended the Accademia Albertina, a pupil of Andrea Marchisio and Paolo Gaidano, for only three years, because he was forced to help his father in the scenography works.     "Woman with veil" oil on paper by Gino Parin. The painting is from the 20s / 30s of the twentieth century, has a beautiful coeval gilded wood frame. The picture and the frame need some cleaning. It comes from a private collection from Biella. Gino Parin was born in Trieste in 1876. His real name was Federico Gino Pollack. He began his artistic education in the studio of the Trieste painter Eugenio Scomparini and then continued at the Venetian Girolamo Navarra's one. At 19 he went to Munich to attend the Academy where he attended the courses of Karl Raupp and became acquainted with the painting of the Pre-Raphaelites, Lenbach, von Marées and von Stuck. Having become a member of the Münchener Künstler Genossenschaft, he often exhibited at the Glaspalast. He traveled extensively in Europe, visiting Switzerland, France and England. From 1910 he began to participate in the collective exhibitions of the Trieste Artistic Circle. Here he settled permanently at the outbreak of the First World War. He participated to the Biennials of 1921, 1924, 1928 and 1932. In 1923 he received the gold medal at the Turin Quadrennial. During this period his style, from the original German academic setting, evolved towards a personal reworking of the taste of the Deco years. His production, mainly focused on female portraits and interior painting, earned him the definition of "painter of beautiful women". Francis Maurice Roganeau (Bordeaux 1883 - Aix-en-Provence 1973) is a French painter, illustrator and sculptor. François-Maurice Roganeau was student of the renowned sculptors Gaston Veuvenot Leroux and Paul Quinsac at the School of Fine Arts in Bordeaux, then he went to study in Jean-Léon Gérôme's studio and later on with Gabriel Ferrier at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. He started with illustration and painting. As an illustrator, he mainly worked for the publisher Henri Laurens. In 1906 he won the first Grand Prix of Rome in painting and the second Grand Prix of sculpture. He exhibited at the 1912 Salon and received a medal for his he painting Le Soir, à la Rivière, inspired by one of André Chénier's Poésies antiques. In 1917 he was commissioned to repair the identical ceiling of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, initially painted by Jean-Baptiste-Claude Robin.
