  • "Serene Hours" pastel on cardboard by Gigi Chessa. Work produced between 1914 and 1915, on the back there is a cartouche of the Galleria D'Arte Fogliato. It is a very youthful work dating from the only year Gigi Chessa spent as a student at the Accademia Albertina in Turin. In February 1984 it was exhibited at the "Piemonte Artistico e Culturale" (Exhibition: Chessa, Da Milano, Levi, Menzio). The painting was published in "Rassegna Pittorica, Ottocento - Novecento" of the Galleria Inarte Alassio (April 2003), page 19, TAV IX Gigi CHESSA (1898-1935).     "Young Musician" pastel on paper by Pietro Gaudenzi (1880-1955). After an initial artistic training with the painter Felice Del Santo in La Spezia, he attended the Accademia lingustica of fine arts, where he was a pupil of Cesare Viazzi. In 1903, after winning the Duchessa di Galliera Artistic Pension, he went to Rome to complete his studies. In the capital he studied the masters of the Renaissance - above all Michelangelo and Raphael - while among the moderns he showed interest in G.A. Sartorio, A. Mancini, A. Spadini and F.P. Michetti. Some of the artists over-mentioned appear with him among the contributors to the magazine Novissima. He also frequented Felice Carena. The first work to lead him to fame was I priori (The Priors) bought by the Municipality of Rome in 1911 at the International Exhibition.     Expulsion of the Merchants from the Temple, oil on canvas from the first half of the 18th century. Splendid scenography, the painter was able to give "movement" to the many characters. Definitely an interesting work that deserves in-depth study. The conditions are excellent, it has not undergone to any loss of colour or restoration over time, just a light cleaning.
